DUCKS DROP SEASON FINALE; PLAYOFFS BEGIN WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Long Island to open Liberty Division Championship Series at Bethpage Ballpark

(Sugar Land, Texas, Sept. 17, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Constellation Field in the final game of the 2017 regular season.

The Skeeters took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Anthony Giansanti’s sacrifice fly to center field off Ducks starter Tyler Levine. A two-out RBI double by Wilfredo Rodriguez in the third extended the advantage to two.

Sugar Land doubled their lead to 4-0 in the seventh on a two-run home run to right by Caleb Ramsey. Long Island closed to within two in the eighth on an RBI double to left by Delta Cleary Jr. and an RBI single to right by Angelo Songco. However, the Skeeters got the runs back in the bottom of the inning on sac flies from Dickie Thon and Ramsey.

Skeeters starter Alberto Rodriguez (1-0) earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Levine (3-3) took the loss, yielding two runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings with three strikeouts. Felipe Paulino picked up his 16th save by recording the game’s final four outs.

The Ducks begin the Atlantic League playoffs on Wednesday night when they open the Liberty Division Championship Series against the Somerset Patriots. Game One of the best-of-five series will begin at 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Good Times, Every Time Notebooks, courtesy of People’s Alliance Federal Credit Union.
