(Waldorf, Md., April 27, 2015)
– The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-1 on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series-opening win

The Ducks opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when Lew Ford cracked a solo home run to left-center field off Blue Crabs starter Brian Baker. Southern Maryland answered in the bottom of the inning on Daryle Ward’s RBI single to left off Ducks starter Sergio Perez.

It stayed 1-1 until the seventh when Dan Lyons put Long Island back in front with a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to right off Blue Crabs reliever Justin Berg. A bases loaded walk by Reegie Corona in the eighth extended the lead to 4-1.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Perez lasted five innings, allowing a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six. Baker tossed five innings, giving up a run on three hits with five strikeouts. Carmine Giardina (1-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless inning of relief, and Orlando Santos (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on three walks with two strikeouts in one and one-third innings. Ryan Kussmaul earned his third save with a scoreless ninth.

Corona led the Flock with two hits in the game.
