DUCKS BATTER BLUEFISH WITH 18-RUN ATTACK

Long Island guarantees at least a share of the Ferry Cup title

(Bridgeport, Conn., August 19, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 18-1 on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Tuesday's offensive onslaught

The Ducks took the lead with a five-spot in the third inning against Bluefish starter D.J. Mitchell. A two-run single to right-center field by Bill Hall and a three-run home run to left by Cody Puckett did the damage. Bridgeport got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame on a solo homer to center by James Simmons off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins.

Long Island then exploded for seven more runs in the fourth inning. A RBI single to center by Lew Ford, a bases loaded walk to Hall, a grand slam to right by Adam Bailey and a mammoth solo homer to left by Brandon Bantz highlighted the scoring.

A three-spot in the sixth, courtesy of Puckett’s two-run triple and Joash Brodin’s run-scoring groundout, increased the lead to 15-1. Bill Hall capped the scoring in the seventh with a three-run home run to left.

Blevins (8-3) earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out seven. Mitchell (8-8) suffered the loss, surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits and three walks with one strikeout over three and one-third innings.

Nine of the 10 Ducks batters in the game had at least one hit and one run scored, while six drove in at least one run. Bailey led the way with four hits, while Hall and Puckett each added three. Hall led the Flock with six RBI and four runs.

The Ducks and cross-sound rival Bluefish wrap up the 2014 Ferry Cup Series on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Right-hander Jared Lansford toes the rubber for the Ducks against a Bluefish starter that has yet to be determined.
