Two-time Atlantic League champion recognized for strong July

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 6, 2014) - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced that Long Island Ducks pitcher Jared Lansford has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Month for July. He is the second consecutive Ducks pitcher to receive the monthly honor in 2014 (Shaun Garceau, June) and third Ducks player to earn a monthly honor this year (Lew Ford, Player of the Month, May).

"Jared has done an incredible job transitioning from the bullpen to the starting rotation this season," said Ducks manager Kevin Baez. "We are proud of him for all that he has accomplished so far and look forward to watching him pitch throughout the rest of the season."

During the month of July, Lansford was tied for the team lead and led all Atlantic League starting pitchers with a 1.88 ERA. In addition, he led the league in innings pitched during the month (43) and tied for second in the league with strikeouts (35), trailing only Sugar Land’s Steve Hammond by one. Opponents batted .192 against Lansford in July, and the right-hander allowed just 30 hits, 10 runs (nine earned) and 10 walks in his six starts.

Thanks to his strong month, the 27-year-old now ranks fifth in the Atlantic League in ERA (3.25), sixth in strikeouts (85) and batting average against (.239), and ninth in innings pitched (110.2) this season. He has allowed four earned runs or less in all but one start of his 18 starts in 2014 as well. Lansford spent his first two seasons with the Ducks as a reliever, combining to go 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA, nine saves and 88 strikeouts in 94 games. In 11 postseason games, he has a 3-0 record with a 0.73 ERA, allowing just one run and one walk while striking out 13 to help lead the Ducks to back-to-back Atlantic League titles.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit
