'SHARKS STUN DUCKS TWICE TO WIN OPENER

Ducks defeated on homer in ninth and single in 12th

(Camden, N.J., July 30, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 3-2 in 12 innings on Wednesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series opener

The Ducks grabbed a run in the opening inning on Cody Puckett’s two-out RBI single off Riversharks starter Pedro Liriano. It stayed 1-0 all the way until the bottom of the ninth when Bryan Pounds hit a leadoff solo homer off Ducks reliever David Kopp.

Both sides remained even until the 12th when Lew Ford drew a two-out bases loaded walk to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. However, a two-run single down the right field line by Mike Albaladejo in the bottom of the frame ended the ballgame.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Jared Lansford tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, only one of which left the infield, and one walk while striking out nine. Liriano lasted six innings, allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts. T.J. Hose (3-7) collected the win despite allowing a run on two hits and two walks in one inning. Eric Niesen (3-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits in one inning.

Ford led the Flock with three hits in the game, while three others finished with two apiece.

The Ducks and Riversharks continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Campbell’s Field. Right-hander Shaun Garceau gets the start for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Wes Torrez.
