DUCKS FALL TO REVS IN SERIES OPENER

Bailey leads the way for Long Island with two hits and two RBI

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 18, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 5-2 on Friday night at Bethpage Ballpark in the opener of a three-game series.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out RBI double from Adam Bailey off York starter Corey Thurman. The Revs evened the ballgame in the fourth on a triple from Eric Patterson off Ducks starting pitcher John Brownell and a run-scoring throwing error.

York plated two runs in the sixth to gain the lead. A run-scoring double play groundout from Bryant Nelson and a RBI single from Salvador Paniagua highlighted the inning. The Revolution added two more runs in the seventh on a Wilson Valdez RBI single and a Travis Garcia sacrifice fly.

Bailey brought the Ducks to back within three on a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, but the Flock would get no closer.

Thurman (4-3) earned the win, yielding one run over seven innings on five hits and one walk with one strikeout. Brownell (9-5) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings of work. Rommie Lewis earned his 20th save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

Jon Myers and Bailey each led the Ducks with two hits, while Bailey added two runs batted in.

Long Island continues their three-game series with York on Saturday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Huntington Honda. Right-hander Bobby Blevins takes the mound for the Ducks against Revolution southpaw Logan Williamson.

Duck Tales: Fehlandt Lentini earned another hit on Friday and has now hit safely 38 of his last 39 games, including 17 straight. In the 39 games, he is batting .347 (59-for-170), and in his current 17-game hitting streak, he’s hitting .312 (24-for-77). The first-year Duck currently leads the Atlantic League in hits (107), doubles (27), stolen bases (31) and at-bats (331) while ranking third in runs (56) and fourth in batting average (.323)…Lew Ford picked up another hit on Friday and is continuing to produce at the plate. The 2014 All-Star has multiple hits in seven of his 14 games and has 23 hits in his last 55 at-bats, good for a .418 batting average. Ford leads the Flock with 31 multi-hit games this year and leads the Atlantic League in hits (107), RBI (60) and games played (77). He ranks second in batting average (.361), runs (60), total bases (161), on-base percentage (.434) and slugging percentage (.544)…With two hits on Friday, Jon Myers has now hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. The first-year Duck is batting .309 (17-for-55) in that stretch. Myers now has five multi-hit games this season...Adam Bailey's two hits earned him his 15th two-hit game this year and 20th multi-hit game. The 2014 All-Star has also now hit safely in eight consecutive games and is batting .400 (14-for-35) during the streak… Brownell tossed his fourth consecutive quality start on Friday night with six innings of three-run ball. In those four starts, Brownell is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA, having allowed nine runs in 25 innings. The 2013 Atlantic League Championship Series MVP currently leads the league in wins (9), innings pitched (115.1), strikeouts (83), complete games (4) and games started (17).
