DUCKS STORM BACK BUT FALL SHORT IN FINALE

Long Island overcomes 3-0 deficit but falls in extra innings

(Lancaster, Penn., July 13, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series finale

The Barnstormers opened the scoring on a leadoff solo home run by Lance Zawadzki in the bottom of the first off Ducks starter John Brownell. A two-run homer to left by Cole Garner in the third increased the lead to 3-0.

Long Island pulled to within one on single runs in the fifth and sixth off Barnstormers starter Mark Rogers. A RBI triple by Fehlandt Lentini and a balk that scored Lew Ford highlighted the scoring. Ford tied the game in the seventh with a two-out RBI single to left.

It remained 3-3 until the bottom of the 10th when Zawadzki ended the game with a walk-off single down the left field line.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell tossed six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five. Rogers lasted five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Pete Parise (5-3) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two. David Kopp (1-1) took the loss, yielding a run on two hits while striking out two in one inning.

Adam Bailey and Brendan Harris led the Flock with two hits apiece.

The Ducks will enjoy four days off for the Atlantic League All-Star break before returning home on Friday, July 18 for a six-game homestand, beginning with a three-game series against the York Revolution. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Logo Baseballs, courtesy of Suffolk County AME.
