DUCKS SHUT OUT BARNSTORMERS

Six pitchers combine for first Ducks shutout of the season

(Lancaster, Penn., May 10, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-0 on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

For the second consecutive night, Long Island struck first. After both teams exchanged zeroes through the first three innings, Dan Lyons’ two-out, two-run double off Barnstormers starter Brian Grening gave the Flock a 2-0 lead. The score held true until the ninth when a three-run home run from Joash Brodin extended the Ducks advantage to 5-0.

Six different pitchers combined to shut out the Barnstormers and held them to just four hits while stranding 11 runners on base. Jared Lansford, making his first appearance of the season and first start in a Ducks uniform, went three scoreless innings to start the game, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.


Fernando Hernandez (2-0) earned the win after tossing one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two. Grening (1-1) took the loss for Lancaster, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

Lyons paced the Flock, finishing the game with three hits, one run and two runs batted in.

The Ducks finish up their series with Lancaster on Sunday at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. Left-hander Matt Way gets the start for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Chris Schwinden. Long Island will return home on Friday, May 16 to open a three-game series with the Camden Riversharks. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. It’s “Don’t Zone Out” Night at the ballpark, and the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Static Cling Decals, courtesy of CSEA.
