Second baseman becomes 20th member of 2014 team

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 2, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of infielder Cody Puckett. He begins his first season with the Ducks and in the Atlantic League.

“Cody is a valuable player on multiple levels,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “He’s proven to be a dangerous hitter and defensive asset throughout his entire career thus far.”

Puckett has played six seasons of professional baseball. He spent his first five seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization, reaching as high as Triple-A Louisville in 2012. The California native’s best season came in 2009 when he set career-highs with 19 home runs, 76 runs and 19 stolen bases with Single-A Dayton. The following year he posted career-best totals in batting average (.277), hits (131), doubles (40), triples (4) and walks (45) with High-A Lynchburg.

The 26-year-old spent the 2013 season with the Chicago White Sox organization, splitting time between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He combined to play 108 games and posted a .251 batting average with 17 homers, 52 RBI, 45 runs and 16 doubles. Overall, the California State University - Dominguez Hills alum has a .256 career batting average with 94 home runs, 340 RBI, 146 doubles and a .965 fielding percentage in 646 games. Puckett was originally drafted by the Reds in the eighth round of the 2008 amateur draft.
