BRODIN BACK ON LONG ISLAND

2013 Atlantic League All-Star rejoins Ducks

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 26, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that they have signed infielder Joash Brodin. The two-time Atlantic League champion, who began the year in spring training with the Arizona Diamondbacks, enters his third season with the Ducks.

“Joash can hit for average, hit for power, has great speed and can field his position well,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “He is an outstanding player, and we are excited to welcome him back to Long Island this season.”

Brodin began his Ducks career in July of 2012 after leading the Frontier League in batting and earning an All-Star selection with the London Rippers. In 49 games with the Ducks, the switch-hitter batted .282 with three home runs, 24 RBI and six doubles. During the postseason, he compiled a .359 batting average, seven RBI and eight runs scored while earning a hit in every game during the Atlantic League Championship Series.

The Texas native and Washington resident started the 2013 season with Long Island and quickly became the Ducks biggest offensive threat. He led the team with a .307 batting average, 79 runs and 14 stolen bases while finishing second in walks (41) and third in hits (128), doubles (21) and at-bats (417). The 27-year-old also totaled 11 homers and 49 RBI to earn the starting left field spot for the Liberty Division at the All-Star Game. Brodin’s success was also rewarded with a contract from the Diamondbacks organization in August, marking his first experience playing affiliated baseball.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
