2013 MVP VOTING UNDERWAY

Cast your vote to determine this year’s winner

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks and Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers have teamed up once again to present the 2013 Delmonte-Smelson/Long Island Ducks MVP Award. Fans can vote from now through September 10 for the Duck they believe should be this year’s Most Valuable Player.

To cast your ballot for this year’s MVP award, please CLICK HERE and select who you think the winner should be. The player with the most fan votes will receive a commemorative gift from Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers and be presented with his award prior to the Ducks game against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday, September 12 which is Fan Appreciation Day, presented by Long Island Pepsi.

The following are this year’s nominees:

Pitcher John Brownell: Brownell leads the Atlantic League with 122 strikeouts, five complete games and two shutouts in 2013, his second season with the Ducks. The right-hander also ranks fifth in the league with 144.1 innings pitched, 10th with a 3.74 ERA and leads Long Island’s pitching staff with nine wins.

Infielder Bryant Nelson: Nelson earns nomination for a second consecutive season. The fourth-year Duck is currently the team leader in RBI (67) and doubles (28). In addition, he is the active team leader in hits (122) and runs (66) while ranking second in games played (110) and tied for third in home runs (11).

Outfielder Adam Bailey: Bailey has played in a team-high 116 games during the year and leads Long Island with 448 at-bats. He is currently second on the team in home runs (14) and doubles (22) while ranking third in RBI (52) and runs scored (50). The right fielder has been outstanding defensively as well, totaling 10 outfield assists while committing just five errors.

Pitcher Jared Lansford: The right-hander ranks second on the Ducks pitching staff in appearances with 45 and saves with nine. The second-year Duck leads all relievers with five wins as well. He has struck out 47 batters in 48 and one-third innings this season while walking only 19, proving to be a tremendous force as either the set-up man or closer in 2013.
