DUCKS SHARK-BITTEN IN SERIES OPENER

Camden’s 15-hit attack too much for Long Island

(Camden, N.J., July 22, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 10-5 on Monday night in the first game of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series opener

Long Island struck first on a two-out RBI double to right by Ramon Castro in the first inning off Riversharks starter Josh Walter. Camden answered back with RBI singles by Valentino Pascucci and Raul Padron in the bottom of the frame off Ducks starter John Brownell.

Kraig Binick’s solo homer to left in the second tied the game at two, but a RBI single to center by Wilson Valdez in the bottom of the inning put the ‘Sharks back on top. Two-out RBI singles by Valdez and Dionys Cesar in the fourth extended the Camden lead to 5-2.

Ray Navarrete’s RBI double cut the deficit to two in the sixth, but a two-run single by Pascucci in the bottom of the sixth pushed the lead up to four. Josh Barfield’s RBI double and Adam Bailey’s RBI single in the seventh trimmed the deficit back to two, but a three-run eighth inning for the Riversharks put the game away.

Walter (5-9) picked up the win, tossing six and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout. Brownell (8-5) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits while tying a season-high with nine strikeouts.

Barfield led the Ducks with three hits while Castro and Bailey chipped in with two apiece.
