NIESEN SIGNED BY RED SOX

Pitcher becomes second Duck signed by MLB organization in a week

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 9, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that pitcher Eric Niesen has been signed by the Boston Red Sox organization. He becomes the second Duck to be signed by a Major League organization in the past week (7/4, Ben Broussard, Royals).

“Eric has done a tremendous job for the Ducks and we’re pleased to see him get this opportunity,” says Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We wish him the best of luck with the Red Sox organization.”

Niesen will report to Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League on Tuesday for their game at Lehigh Valley. While with the Ducks this season, the left-hander posted a 4-0 record with 3.23 ERA and struck out 39 batters in 39 innings of work while allowing just 34 hits.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
