(Statistics through play on September 10)

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 10, 2017)
– The Long Island Ducks announced the winners of two team awards prior to their final regular season home game on Sunday, September 10. Outfielder Marc Krauss was voted as the team’s Most Valuable Player, presented by Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers, and outfielder/bench coach Lew Ford earned P.C. Richard and Son Whistle Player of the Year honors.

“Marc and Lew have both put together strong seasons at the plate and have been great teammates as well,” says Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We congratulate them on receiving these honors of which they are certainly deserving.”

Krauss received the most selections during fan voting at LIDucks.com for the team’s MVP award. In his first season with the Flock, he leads all Ducks players with 83 runs batted in, 71 runs scored, 78 walks, a .402 on-base percentage and a .519 slugging percentage. Those statistics also put him among the Top Five in the Atlantic League for each category. Krauss is also tied for the team lead in doubles with 28. The former Major Leaguer ranks second on the Ducks in home runs (21), is third in batting average (.284) and games played (119) and sits fourth in hits (115). Defensively, he has spent time in both left and right field, as well as first base, combining to commit just three errors all season. For being voted the team MVP, Krauss received a luxury wristwatch, courtesy of Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers.

Ford earned P.C. Richard and Son Whistle Player of the Year honors for scoring the most runs in games which he was designated as the Whistle Player of the Game. He crossed home plate seven times in seven games as the Whistle Player. Overall, the outfielder has a .281 batting average with eight home runs, 30 RBI, 30 runs scored and 15 doubles in 69 games played this season. 2017 was his eighth season with the Flock, making him the longest-tenured player on the roster. By winning the Whistle Player of the Year competition, Ford received a $500 gift card, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son.
