Long Island rallies to tie game in ninth, win it in 10th

The Ducks struck for the game’s opening run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by Alex Burg off Skeeters starter Mitch Talbot. Sugar Land responded with a three-run third inning against Ducks starter Alfredo Simon to take a 3-1 lead. Following a triple by Joe Benson and a walk by Josh Prince, both with two outs, Caleb Ramsey hit a three-run home run to right field.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth. Angelo Songco walked and Elmer Reyes doubled with one out in the frame, and Giovanny Alfonzo delivered a two-out, two-run single up the middle to tie the game at three.

After Amalio Diaz escaped second-and-third, two-out jam in the top of the 10th, the Ducks won it in the bottom of the frame. Lew Ford and Marc Krauss each walked with one out against Trey Haley, and Songco followed with the game-winning single through the right side.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Simon tossed eight innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five. Talbot pitched six innings of one-run ball, giving up six hits while striking out six. Diaz (4-4) got the win after pitched a scoreless 10th inning, yielding a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Haley (2-2) took the loss, surrendering the winning run on a hit and two walks in one-third of an inning.

Krauss, Songco and Reyes each had two hits to pace the Ducks offensively, with Songco adding an RBI and two runs.

The Ducks hit the road on Friday night to open a three-game series against the New Britain Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Right-hander Tyler Levine (3-0, 4.40) gets the start for the Ducks against Bees southpaw Nick Greenwood (2-4, 4.81).
