SKEETERS BREAK OUT BATS TO EVEN SERIES

Angelo Songco earns team-leading 23rd RBI in defeat

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 31, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters on Wednesday night in the middle of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Sugar Land was led offensively by first baseman Andy Wilkins. He totaled four hits in the game, including a double and a home run, drove in two runs and scored a pair. Hector Olivera collected three hits, one RBI and two runs scored, while Wilfredo Rodriguez finished with two hits and three RBI.

Long Island brought home a run in the seventh inning. Fehlandt Lentini tripled to open the frame and scored on Angelo Songco’s RBI single to center field.

Skeeters starter Michael Nix (3-5) earned the win, pitching seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out five. Ducks starter Eury De La Rosa (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks in two innings.

The Ducks and Skeeters wrap up their three-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full-season ticket holders). It’s “Don’t Zone Out” Night at the ballpark, and the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive Baseball Jar Openers, courtesy of CSEA. It’s also a Thirsty Thursday, and all fans are invited to visit the Duck Club restaurant and bar, normally reserved for VIP/season ticket holders, on the suite level. There will be food and drink specials featured, including half price domestics. Right-hander Dennis O’Grady (1-2, 3.54) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Mitch Talbot (0-0, 12.46).
