MELVILLE'S MASTERPIECE HELPS DUCKS SWEEP ASIDE PATRIOTS

Righty tosses six scoreless innings, Ducks swat two homers in victory

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 21, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

POSTGAME VIDEO: Alex Burg, Tim Melville and Dan Lyons talk about the win

Alex Burg got the scoring started for the Ducks in the second inning with a two-run home run down the left field line off Patriots starter David Kubiak. One inning later, Angelo Songco smacked a three-run home run down the right field line to increase the lead to 5-0.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when the Ducks plated three more runs. RBI singles to center by Burg and Dan Lyons, along with a throwing error by Justin Pacchioli that scored Marc Krauss, did the damage.

Tim Melville (2-2) was brilliant to earn the win, pitching six shutout innings and allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Kubiak (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits and two walks in six innings with five strikeouts.

Burg and Lyons led the Flock with three hits apiece, while Burg and Songco each drove in three runs.

Following a day off, the Ducks hit the road on Tuesday to being the 2017 Ferry Cup Series, as they open a four-game series with the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Fans can follow all the action online on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Right-hander John Brownell (2-0, 3.03) gets the start for the Ducks against Bluefish righty Jonathan Albaladejo (3-1, 4.69).

Long Island returns home on Friday, May 26 to kick off a four-game set against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 pm, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full-season ticket holders). It's a Fowl Pole Friday at the Duck Pond, and if a select Ducks player hits a home run off of one of the foul poles during the game, one lucky fan will win $50,000. In addition, a Barnstormers player will be selected as the Pizza Hut K-Man of the game. If that player strikes out, fans will receive a special offer for a FREE 1-Topping Personal Pan Pizza at a participating Pizza Hut location.
