Bridgeport right-hander allows one run in complete game win

(Central Islip, Sept. 5, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 3-1 on Monday afternoon in game one of a four-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.

Bridgeport took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a fielding error that scored Sean Burroughs and Jose Gil. The Ducks cut the deficit to one run on Cody Puckett’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Bluefish took a 3-1 lead on Gil’s run-scoring single in the sixth.

Bluefish righty Ross Seaton (1-3) earned the victory, yielding one run on three hits and a walk over nine innings. Ducks starter Nick Struck (2-5) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks. The righty fanned two batters over five and two-thirds innings.

Delta Cleary Jr. led Long Island with two hits and a run scored.

The Ducks and Bluefish continue their series on Tuesday. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s the 11th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated with a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Northwell Health Cancer Institute. Ducks southpaw Jarret Leverett takes the ball against Bluefish left-hander Matthew Spann.
