GONZALEZ SHINES FOR LANCASTER IN SERIES FINALE

Barnstormers southpaw allows one hit over eight innings for the victory

(Lancaster, Pa., Sept. 1, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-2 on Thursday night in the finale of a five-game set at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series finale

Lancaster left-hander Luis Gonzalez (1-0) allowed one run on one hit over eight innings, striking out three and walking three in the victory. K.C. Hobson opened the scoring for the Barnstormers with a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning. Lancaster added two more runs in the inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Mike Jacobs and Mike McDade. In the next inning, Hobson doubled to right, driving in the Barnstormers’ fifth run of the night.

Long Island scored in the top of the fifth on Carlos Hughes’ run-scoring groundout, but Josh Bell’s solo homer in the bottom of the frame extended the Lancaster lead to 6-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Barnstormers rallied for three runs off Ducks reliever Mike Jackson Jr. An RBI double by Dean Wilson, an RBI single by Trayvon Robinson, and a fielding error did the damage.

Lew Ford’s run-scoring double in the ninth made it 9-2, but Ducks could not muster any more runs.

Jarrett Leverett (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings. The southpaw struck out three and walked two.

Cleary Jr. had a hit and a run scored to lead the Ducks.
