EARLY DEFICIT PROVES TOO LARGE FOR DUCKS

Four-run second inning lifts Lancaster over Long Island

(Lancaster, Pa., June 1, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-4 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Wednesday's game

Lancaster took a 1-0 lead the first inning on an RBI double to left field by Caleb Gindl off Ducks starter Darin Downs. Long Island responded with three runs in the second off Barnstormers starter Terry Doyle. Tyler Colvin’s mammoth leadoff solo home run to right and a two-run triple down the right field line by Anthony Vega put the Ducks in front 3-1.

The Barnstormers answered back with four more runs in the second to jump back ahead at 5-3. An RBI infield single by Lance Zawadzki, an RBI double by Kevin Ahrens and a two-run single to by Josh Bell did the damage. Mike Blanke’s solo homer to left in the fourth cut the deficit to one, but an opposite field two-run homer to right by Mike McDade in the fifth ballooned Lancaster’s advantage to 7-4. An RBI single to right by Charlie Cutler in the seventh rounded out the scoring.

Doyle (2-2) picked up the victory, tossing six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three. Downs (3-2) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits over five innings with five walks and five strikeouts.

Fehlandt Lentini, Blake Tekotte and Mike Dowd each had two hits to lead the Flock offensively.
