DUCKS SWEEP ASIDE BLUEFISH FOR NINTH STRAIGHT WIN

Long Island native Vega leads the way with three hits, four RBI

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 8, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 9-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Long Island's third consecutive series sweep

Anthony Vega’s RBI triple to right-center field in the second inning off of Bluefish starter R.J. Hively put the Ducks in front 1-0. Bridgeport took the lead in the fourth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Carlos Sosa and a RBI single by Luis Nunez off of Ducks starter Darin Downs.

Long Island took the lead back with four runs in the sixth. A fly ball to right by Mike Dowd was dropped, scoring Cody Puckett and Dan Lyons, and Fehlandt Lentini followed two batters later with a two-run single through the left side. Two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth put the game out of reach at 9-2. Vega’s two-run single, Lew Ford’s solo homer to right and a RBI double by Vega highlighted the scoring.

Downs (1-1) picked up the victory, pitching five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Hively (0-2) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five and one-third innings.

Vega led the Flock with three hits and four RBI, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle. Puckett and Sean Burroughs each added two hits.
