LATE HOME RUN LIFTS LANCASTER OVER LONG ISLAND

Ducks drop series opener to Barnstormers

(Lancaster, Penn., Sept. 17, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series opener

The Ducks opened the scoring in the second inning on a two-out RBI single through the left side by Anthony Vega off of Barnstormers starter Edwin Carl. The Barnstormers answered with three runs in the third against Ducks starter Darin Downs. A RBI double by Zach Collier and RBI singles from Lance Zawadzki and Anderson Feliz, both with two outs, did the damage.

Randy Ruiz pulled the Ducks back even at three in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to center. However, a solo homer to right in the bottom of the seventh by Kent Matthes put the ‘Stormers back in front 4-3.

Carl (1-0) collected the win, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four. Nick Struck (5-4) suffered the loss, giving up a run on three hits in one inning of relief. Scott Patterson earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning. Downs did not factor into the decision, tossing six innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out five.

Dan Lyons led the Flock with three hits, while Ruiz added two RBI.
