DOWNS DELIVERS DUCKS TO VICTORY

Southpaw’s quality start evens up four-game set

(Sugar Land, Texas, Aug. 6, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-2 on Thursday night in the second game of a four-game series at Constellation Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Long Island's big day at the plate

Both sides traded zeroes until the fifth inning when the Ducks scored three times against Skeeters starter Matt Wright. Throwing errors by Wright and Chris Wallace, along with a RBI double by Delta Cleary, Jr., highlighted the inning. Sugar Land responded by scoring twice in the bottom of the frame on two wild pitches from Ducks starter Darin Downs.

Long Island took their three-run lead back in the sixth on a two-out, two-run triple down the right field line by Fehlandt Lentini. Bryan Sabatella added a sacrifice fly to right in the seventh to increase the advantage to 6-2.

Downs (1-3) earned his first victory as a Duck, tossing six innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Wright (5-6) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in five and one-third innings with eight strikeouts. Nick Struck, Ryan Kussmaul and J.C. Romero each pitched a scoreless inning to seal the win.

Lentini, Cleary, Jr. Dan Lyons and Carlos Hughes each had two hits to lead the Flock offensively.

Long Island and Sugar Land continue their four-game set on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT from Constellation Field. Right-hander John Brownell toes the rubber for the Ducks against Skeeters righty and former Duck Derek Blacksher.
