TERRIFIC SEASON ENDS FOR DUCKS IN YORK

Eighth inning two-run homer gives Revolution the Atlantic League title

(York, Pa., Sept. 29, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 3-2 on Friday night in Game Three of the Atlantic League Championship Series at PeoplesBank Park. The Revolution win the best-of-five series three games to none and are the 2017 Atlantic League champions.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Revolution starter Victor Mateo. Anthony Vega singled, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on Giovanny Alfonzo’s RBI single to right field. The Ducks extended the lead to two in the fifth when Vega walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Mateo.

York closed to within 2-1 in the sixth on Isaias Tejeda’s two-out RBI single to center off Ducks starter John Brownell. The Revolution then took the lead for good in the eighth when Rubi Silva reached on a bunt single, and Telvin Nash followed with a two-run home run to center.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell pitched five and two-thirds innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out five. Mateo lasted five and two-thirds innings as well, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Michael Click (1-0) earned the win with one and one-third scoreless innings of relief, striking out one. Matt Marsh (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding the game-winning run and two hits. Grant Sides collected his first save of the playoffs with a scoreless ninth.

The Ducks would like to thank the best fans in the Atlantic League for all of their support during the 2017 season. This year saw the Ducks earn their 12th postseason appearance in franchise history as the Second Half Liberty Division champions. In addition, Long Island went on defeat the Somerset Patriots to earn the team’s sixth Division Championship all-time and fifth Liberty Division title in the past seven seasons.
