THIS ...IS ANTHEM IDOL!

National Anthem competition returns April 10

(Central Islip, N.Y., March. 1, 2010)The Long Island Ducks, in conjunction with 106.1 WBLI, will hold their sixth annual “Anthem Idol Contest” on Saturday, April 10, at the home of the Long Island Ducks. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with contestants vying for six anthem openings. The panel of judges will consist of Ducks and WBLI personalities.

“Each year, some of the best singers and performers on Long Island turn out to make this one of the toughest singing competitions anywhere,” says Ducks promotions and sponsorship manager Rob Lyons. “We can’t wait to see everyone’s talents on display on April 10th, and we’re sure it’s going to be the best Anthem Idol contest yet!”

Last year’s auditions were a great success, as many “Anthem Idol” hopefuls lined up to perform. The lucky winners were each given their moment in the spotlight, performing the national anthem at a Ducks game during the season. In 2005, the contest’s inaugural year, Levittown’s Kevin Covais turned his success in the contest into an appearance in the finals of the 2006 season of Fox’s American Idol.

Performances will be held a capella with a one-minute thirty second time limit. Instrumentalists and other unique performers are encouraged to participate as well. No tapes will be accepted. Six performers will be selected as winners and given the opportunity to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at a Ducks game this season.

The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park in Central Islip, NY and are entering their 11th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Through 10 seasons, the team has averaged 6,077 fans per game in their 6,002-seat park. For further information, visit www.liducks.com or call 631-940-DUCK.
