League MVP wins LI fan vote

(Central Islip, N.Y., Jan 14, 2010) – The Long Island Press announced today that Ray Navarrete has been named “Best Long Island Duck” as part of this year’s Long Island Press “Best of Long Island 2010” awards . The Atlantic League MVP will attend a ceremony hosted by the Long Island Press along with Ducks’ mascot QuackerJack on February 8th to receive the award.
 
“It is a great honor to be selected for this prominent award,” says Navarrete. “The Long Island Ducks are a first-class organization and I couldn’t be more privileged to receive such an accolade.”
 
Navarrete had a career year in 2009, appearing in an Atlantic League record 139 games. The New Jersey native set five single-season Ducks’ records with games played (139), at-bats (531), runs (106), hits (164) and extra-base hits (66). The former Seton Hall Alum also set franchise records in home runs (72) and doubles (129). He led the league in RBI (96), hits, runs, extra-base hits and doubles (39), while finishing second in home runs (25), fifth in on-base percentage (.403) and third in slugging percentage (.531).
 
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park in Central Islip, NY and are entering their 11th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
