Somerset earns series spilt with victory
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 29, 2010) – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 10-1 on Thursday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,203 at Suffolk County Sports Park.
Somerset and Long Island traded runs in the first inning as Joe Burke’s RBI single gave the Pats an early 1-0 lead, and Javier Colina’s RBI sacrifice fly tied the contest at one.
A four-run third inning against Ducks’ starter Jake Dittler opened up a four-run advantage for the Patriots. Pete LaForest’s two-run single and RBI singles by Michael Hernandez and Iggy Suarez pushed the lead to 5-1. Three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Josh Pressley, gave the Pats an 8-1 lead which they never relinquished.
Patriots’ starter and former-Duck Bill Pulsipher (1-0) earned the victory, firing six innings, allowing four hits and one run, with six strikeouts. Dittler (8-8) was charged with the loss, surrendering 12 hits and seven runs in his three-plus innings of work.
Matt Cavagnaro and Johnny Hernandez each chipped in with two hits for the Flock.
The Ducks hit the road for a six-game roadtrip beginning on Friday night against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans can tune into all the action live via streaming webcast at www.liducks.com with Chris King calling the play-by-play.
Long Island returns to Suffolk County Sports Park on Friday, August 6th to begin a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is set for 7:05 PM with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05 on Military Appreciation Night. The first 1,500 fans will receive Baseballs, presented by Northrop Grumman.

Duck Tales...With two hits, Matt Cavagnaro picked up his 21st multi-hit game. Matt Esquivel leads the club with 26 multi-hit contests. Cavagnaro also came on in relief and made his first appearance out of the pen this season in scoreless fashion. Cavagnaro appeared in two games last season out of the pen, without allowing a run…Ducks manager Dave LaPoint celebrated his 51st birthday at the Duck Pond on Thursday. Happy Birthday, Pointer!
