(Central Islip, N.Y., July 13, 2010) –The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 11-10 on Tuesday night at Suffolk County Sports Park.

York took the early lead with a run in the first inning against Ducks’ starter Kip Wells, as Erold Andrus singled and came around to score on an error. Long Island responded with a three-spot in the second against York starter Derrell McCall. Following a walk to Dustan Mohr and a single by Johnny Hernandez, Matt Esquivel launched a three-run home run to left-center field, putting the Ducks in front 3-1.

The Revolution trimmed the deficit to one in the third as Andrus came home to score on Ian Bladergroen’s sacrifice fly to left. Robinson Cancel got the run right back for the Flock as he led off the bottom of the frame with a solo homer to left-center, making the score 4-2.

Long Island extended the lead to 6-2 in the fourth when Ray Navarrete smoked a two-run double to left-center, scoring Hernandez and Esquivel. York rallied in the sixth with a four-spot against Ducks’ reliever Julio Guerrero. Liu Rodriguez’ two-run double and Scott Grimes’ two-run homer did the damage and tied the game at six.

In the seventh, the Revs took the lead back against Ducks’ reliever Chris Spurling, as a two-run single from Rodriguez put the visitors in front 8-6. The Ducks responded right back in the bottom of the frame as they batted around and put up a four-spot. Mohr’s two-run homer, a RBI single from Matt Cavagnaro, and a RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Jamie Quinn put the Flock ahead 10-8.

The see-saw affair continued in the eighth as John Pachot’s two-run single to right tied the game at 10. In the bottom of the ninth, Cavagnaro led off with a single, and four batters later, John Rodriguez singled him home to give the Ducks the 11-10 walk-off win.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Ricardo Gomez (1-0) picked up the victory, tossing one and two-thirds scoreless innings, striking out two. R.J. Rodriguez (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run on one hit and three walks in one and one-third innings of work.

Hernandez' four hits led the way offensively for the Flock, while Cancel, Esquivel, Cavagnaro, and Javier Colina each chipped in with two hits.  

The Ducks continue their series against the Revolution on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Tote Bags, courtesy of Petro. Jake Dittler takes the mound for the Ducks against York’s Jesus Sanchez. Duck Tales: Matt Esquivel continued his hot hitting at home in 2010 with his three-run homer in the second inning. Six of Esquivel’s seven home runs have come this season at the Duck Pond, where he has a .301 average…Robinson Cancel’s third inning solo homer was his third against the Revolution this season. He’s hitting .385 in 11 games against York in 2010…Johnny Hernandez’ three singles and a double gave him his first four-hit game of the season. The center fielder last picked up four hits in a game on April 15, 2000 while with Single-A Peoria (Cardinals)…Jamie Quinn picked up his first career RBI when he hit into a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning.
