DUCKS ROLL PAST REVS
Joey Gathright's three hits led charge for Flock
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 23, 2010) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 13-7 on Monday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,380 at Suffolk County Sports Park.
The Revs struck first against Ducks’ starter Kyle Jackson, as two walks, a Jose Herrera RBI double and a RBI sacrifice fly by James Shanks gave York a 2-0 lead after a half an inning.
Long Island answered with a three-spot off York starter Vince Perkins in the subsequent inning. John Rodriguez’ RBI double into left-center field and a RBI sacrifice fly by Robinson Cancel highlighted the frame.
York quickly regained the lead when Chuck Jeroloman belted a two-run homer over the left field wall to push the score to 4-3.
Continuing the back-and-forth game, the Flock claimed the lead right back with two runs in the home second. Joey Gathright’s two-run single down the right field line made the score 5-4.
In the top of the third, Ramon Castro’s solo homer to left field and Erold Andrus’ RBI single gave the Revs the lead back at 6-5.
Three walks and Ray Navarrete’s three-run double into center field in the bottom of the third put Long Island back on top, giving them an 8-6 lead.
Matt Padgett’s three-run homer over the right field wall in the last of the eighth helped put the hammer down as Long Island cruised to their second consecutive victory.
Chris McCoy (2-0) picked up the victory, firing three shutout innings of relief, while Perkins (0-8) absorbed the loss, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) and eight walks in three and one-third innings pitched.
Every batter in the Ducks’ starting lineup picked up a base hit with Gathright’s three leading the way.
