go green

Since 2000, Long Island’s hometown team has prided itself on promoting and participating in environmentally conscious programs but, with the topic becoming more important each day, it was time to implement an official program and include our partners and fans in order to have the greatest impact possible on the Long Island community and the 430,000+ Ducks fans that enter Bethpage Ballpark each season.

Some of our previous and current partnerships on green projects include:

1. Placing Solar Panels on the stadium roof to power the luxury suite level (LIPA and Suffolk County).
2. Placing "Ricky Recycle" receptacles throughout the ballpark for each home game so fans can recycle their bottles and cans (Cans for Cancer/Winthrop Hospital)
3. Enroll in Operation Save New York, a demand response program to reduce ballpark electricity use when the grid is forecast to be unstable (Energy Curtailment Specialists).
4. Sponsorship of Keep Islip Clean’s participation in Nike’s "Reuse a Shoe" program. Bethpage Ballpark is used as one of the drop off/collection points for used sneakers. Collected sneakers are then recycled and used for materials to make new playing surfaces, sports equipment, padding, gear and more (Keep Islip Clean).

The Ducks have been committed to participating in projects that help keep the Island environmentally sound. Now the question is…will you join the team?

Some who have already joined the effort to Go Green for Long Island are:

LIPA's Clean Energy Initiative is one of the most ambitious programs of its kind in the Nation. The CEI is a 10-year, $355-million-dollar commitment to promote clean new electric generation technologies and energy efficiency. For more information, CLICK HERE.

We are thrilled to partner with the LI Ducks' in the Go Green Initiative to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and litter prevention for a clean, green environment. Whether we volunteer individually with a community service group like KIC, or take on large-scale projects like the Ducks, together we can make a very positive contribution to the health of our environment. By following a few simple lawn care tips from the Suffolk County Water Authority, homeowners can not only help preserve the environment, but also save money while promoting a healthy, green lawn. Your lawn will do its best when it is watered less often and for longer periods. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Did you know that ducks are just one of the species that depend upon wetlands for survival? Wetlands keep our waters clean and healthy, protect against coastal flooding and storms, and can even help us deal with the effects of global warming! But, Long Island's wetlands are being threatened by development, pollution and invasive plant species. That's why The Nature Conservancy is working with organizations and agencies to restore our precious wetlands by: helping NY State and local townships strengthen and enforce wetland protection laws; developing strategies to create wetland buffers; controlling invasive plant species, and helping Suffolk County update mosquito control practices. Recycling in the Community
Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids has partnered with Recycling in Communities, Inc., the recycling company with a heart. The Cans for Cancer initiative became a reality in 2001 when a group of volunteers from the Center got together and started collecting all the cans and bottles they could get their hands on. Pretty soon it branched out to schools, corporations, restaurants, country clubs and anyone else who wanted to get involved. Presently, a year and a half later, the Program boasts about the collection of over 10,000 cans a week and how it is growing more every day.

Go green and get paid to conserve electricity for a few hours each year with Operation Save New York demand response program, administered by Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. In addition to earning cash payments, your participation will reduce risk of blackouts in your community and help the environment! For more information, CLICK HERE.
