TAKE A DUCK TO CLASS: EAST ISLIP MIDDLE SCHOOL
(East Islip, N.Y., February 8, 2011) –On Tuesday, the Long Island Ducks spent the afternoon with Krista Cook and all of her schoolmates at East Islip Middle School in East Islip. Krista was the fourth of four winners in the TD Bank Take a Duck to Class Essay Contest and as part of her prize she received an assembly for the entire eighth grade with QuackerJack and All-Star Ray Navarrete.
After Navarrete and QJ signed autographs and took pictures in Ms. Franzese’s class (Krista’s teacher), it was time to head to the grade-wide assembly. When TD Bank & Ducks representatives were done congratulating Krista, QJ jumped out from behind the stage curtain to surprise all of the students. After the cheers died down it was time for Navarrete to talk to the children about the importance of community and education in his life and career.
Krista was overwhelmed with attention as the entire eighth grade gave her a huge round of applause for winning them all the special day. Vice President of Suburban New York Marketing, Eric Fishon, and Lisa Guariglia, Branch Manager of the newly opened West Islip TD Bank, presented Krista with a Visa gift card. As an added surprise Ms. Guariglia brought gift bags for each of the students in Krista’s class courtesy of TD Bank as well.
Contestants were able to pick up applications from local TD Bank locations and write an essay on “Why my community is important to me”. Out of hundreds of essays received from all over the Island, four winners were selected. Each winner receives a visit from a Ducks player and Long Island’s most popular mascot, QuackerJack. The winners also receive a Visa gift card from TD Bank and each student in the winner’s class receives a gift bag, courtesy of TD Bank.
