EMPIRE ANGELS RICK MIEKLEY AND JUSTIN SEIFERT

Ducks present first Empire Angel award of season

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 30, 2011) – At Monday’s game between the Long Island Ducks and the Road Warriors, Rick Miekley and Justin Seifert were recognized as the first “Empire Angels” of the 2011 season. Miekley and Seifert received a plaque, hat and t-shirt before the game.

In the middle of an intramural basketball game at Comsewogue High School, 17-year-old Hope Reindl collapsed and stopped breathing. Rick and Justin, two coaches, started CPR and had a defibrillator hooked up to her in under a minute. Doctors said Hope suffered a serious arrhythmia, though she never had any symptoms of a problem, and coaches Rick Miekley & Justin Seifert got Hope breathing again. Not only are these two gentleman Empire Angels on Monday, but in the Long Island community, they will be looked at as heroes forever.

The Long Island Ducks have again teamed up with Empire BlueCross BlueShield to present the "Empire Angels" program. This program has been designed to recognize those who give back to their community and are selfless in helping others. Those selected as the "Empire Angel" will receive four tickets to the game, be recognized during a pre-game on-field ceremony, and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Empire BlueCross BlueShield and the Ducks will honor their next “Empire Angel” at the Ducks’ home game against the Road Warriors on Friday, June 17.

The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark and are in their 12^th season of play. Individual game tickets for the 2011 season are on sale now.
