EMPIRE ANGEL ANGELA'S HOUSE
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 30, 2010) – At Sunday’s game, Angela's House was recognized as the first “Empire Angel” of the 2010 season. Angela's House received a plaque, hats, t-shirts and threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Angela’s House is a 501 C3 non-profit organization that assists families caring for children with special health care needs that are medically fragile, chronically ill or suffering from a life threatening illness. This agency was founded by the Policastro family 20 years ago following the tragic crisis they lived through, with their daughter Angela. Angela’s House currently works with 400 children in the community. These homes are the first of its kind in New York State and it was just recently approved for the third home to be in Stony Brook.
The Long Island Ducks have teamed up with Empire BlueCross BlueShield to present the "Empire Angels" program. This program has been designed to recognize those who give back to their community and are selfless in helping others. Those selected as the "Empire Angel" will receive four tickets to the game, be recognized during a pre-game on-field ceremony, and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Empire BlueCross BlueShield and the Ducks will honor an "Empire Angel" at home games on Sunday, June 13th, Friday, July 16th, and Friday, August 6th, with the final "Empire Angel" recognition on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th, when the Ducks play the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:35 P.M.
